“The Photographic Unsaid,” 2025 Pingyao International Photography Festival

This multidisciplinary installation explores the complex dynamics of social and cultural expectation. Drawing from the language of real estate listings, I fabricated vinyl signage and laser-cut text so that, once installed, the letterforms reveal the underlying graffiti on the building’s façade. I then used photographic processes to capture, fragment, and recontextualize this language, combining and obscuring the original phrases “Updated Classic" and "Sun-Drenched  & Views.” This gesture exposes the friction between commodified language and the raw immediacy of urban expression.

The resulting images connect directly to my paintings: their soft focus mirrors the atmospheric quality of my painted surfaces, while the underlying graffiti introduces elements of paint and drawing into the photographic field. Through this layered interplay of text, photography, drawing, and sculptural materials, my practice examines the subtle tensions embedded within contemporary identity and lived experience. The compositions evoke both tension and introspection, inviting viewers to navigate the space between the seen and the implied, the intimate and the structural. Rather than offering resolution, the work sustains an engagement with complexity and ambiguity.
